Mr. Ingram’s Parent/Student Letter

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to Blackmon Road Middle School.  I look forward to working with you all.  The following is a quick reference to frequently asked questions:

What will we do in Earth Science?

We will work on the 6th Grade Georgia Standards of Excellence.  These standards can be found on the Georgia Department of Education web site.

Scientific studies show that we learn through different modalities.  Some people favor reading things while other people favor writing things.   Still others learn better when they can hear something, and some favor hands on activities.   Scientific studies show that most of us need a combination of these modalities in order to learn.  So, we will try to get as many modalities in that will make sense and try to increase everyone’s opportunity to learn.

What do I need for my Earth Science Class?

Students need to come every day with paper, pencil, and a positive, ready to work attitude.

If a homework assignment was given, students will need to be prepared to present it.  Written work is filed in the science section of their notebook by date.

How do you grade?

I follow the Muscogee County School District’s grading policy and other legal agreements for specific students.

90 -  100 = A      80 - 89 = B      70 - 79 = C

There are opportunities for students to earn extra points during the grading period.

Is there homework?

Most of the Earth Science homework is to study the class notes, read the text or to complete an assignment.   There are a few occasions in which projects will be assigned, and the requirements for those projects will be given to the students. For a student to be eligible for the end of the year science award, he/she must do the School Science Fair Project. Homework is written on the board in class, and it is posted on school’s homework web site.

What is the seating arrangement?

Students are usually allowed to move when they can’t see something or if we are doing group work.  Mr. Ingram decides the seating arrangement.

What do we do in case of an emergency?

Tornado:  Go in the hall, get on your knees facing the wall, put your head down and remain silent.

Fire:  Calmly go out of the nearest exit with your teacher or attending adult.

Lockdown:  Get into your class, sit silently, lock the door, pull the shade and wait for clearance to resume the normal routine.

Bathroom:  There will be scheduled bathroom breaks and all other bathroom needs are to be done on an emergency basis onlyParents, please discuss with your child what you consider to be a bathroom emergency.

I hope that I have provided a quick reference to some of the questions that you might have had.  If there are further questions, please call me at the school (706) 565-2998 or send me an email at the following:

ingram.donnie.g@muscogee.k12.ga.us.  I will respond as soon as I can.   Again, I look forward to working with you all.
