2016-2017

Welcome to Ms. Williams’ Class!

I want to thank you for working with me as we have worked on developing a schedule that works best for our entire class and would allow me to provide your child with an exceptional learning experience. Mrs. Jessica, Mrs. Amy and I have worked diligently on creating a warm and inviting educational environment where every student will feel safe and comfortable.

The first semester has been dedicated to establishing a routine, implementing positive behavior interventions (PBI) and familiarizing ourselves with the needs of our students. Homework folders will be sent home daily. The homework assignments are worksheets, flash cards, sight words, etc., and cover IEP goals and classroom Group Learning Time (GLT) activities we’ve done in class. I expect homework to be completed, as the assignments are to help with retention of the material. You will need to work with your student on these assignments.

Some assignments will be written out, as they will be functional and adaptive activities. These assignments will be counted as a “homework” grade. Please send the completed assignments back to school, with the homework folder.  My curriculum focuses heavily on English-Language Arts, Dolch Sight Words and Guided Reading. We will continue to send home weekly Guided Reading books for you to read to your child, or have your child read to you. Every student has sight words and will be tested weekly on their sight word list.

We have an intense year ahead of us and we ask that parents contribute to the classroom when, and if you can, any of the following items:

School Supply Wish List:

  • Boxes of Tissue
  • Markers
  • Snacks (granola bars, pretzels, cheese puffs, crackers, juice etc.)
  • Sensory art supplies (pipe cleaners, felt, buttons, macaroni noodles etc.)
  • Prizes for Good Behavior (candy, play-doh, pencils etc.)

I will send home Daily Sheets on each student so that you can see their daily activities, breakfast/lunch menu and restroom schedule. Please feel free to call or email me at any time. I encourage parental involvement as we are a team united for your child’s education and well-being. My class motto is S.M.A.R.T.(Strong.Motivated.Awesome.Resiliant.Talented). Each day, we recite our S.M.A.R.T. motto.  The students are told “You are S.M.A.R.T!” and they are asked to repeat, “I am S.M.A.R.T!”

Please tell your student this daily. I believe they are all exceptionally talented and brilliant!

Sincerely,

Ms. Williams
