IGNITE YOUR CREATIVITY

COURSE OBJECTIVE: To build character on and off of the stage. Students develop concepts about self, relationships with others, and the environment using the various elements of drama and theatre. Theatre is a collaborative art using music, visual art, and dance. In addition, it is a performing art requiring the development of skills in communication, both verbal and nonverbal. We will cross curriculums incorporating Math and Science skills as well as improving literacy skills and knowledge of History. We will discuss the importance of theatre as it relates to real life and its relationship to life skills. This course is structured to provide students with a broad overview of the skills required both technically (off the stage) and on the stage performing. Moreover, we will take a journey through the highlights of theatre and musical theatre history.

MAKE UP WORK: It is the student’s responsibility to check the Makeup Work bin upon return from an absence. I WILL NOT REMIND THE STUDENT. The bin is located in the front of the classroom by the entry door. If the student missed a quiz or test they will need to discuss a time to make up the quiz or test. These times may be during, after, or before school hours. Period of time to complete the assignment: Make up assignment- 2 days after return to school… After 2 days I will begin subtracting a letter grade from the work. If the student missed multiple days we will set a time period. I will sign the period in the student’s agenda. Quiz or Test- ASAP no more than a weeks’ time.

***PLEASE NOTE MANY OF THE ACTIVITIES IN THEATRE ARE DIFFICULT TO MAKEUP. THEY DEPEND UPON A STUDENTS PRESENCE FOR THE ACTIVITY. THEREFORE, A STUDENT MAY RECEIVE AN ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENT FOR MISSED WORK. ***

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Be Respectful
  2. Be Responsible
