Text:  Georgia Holt Math Course 1

Description (s):

In Grade 6, instructional time should focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships;(2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two and three-dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume, and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.

Goals:

The 6-8 standards are organized using domains, overarching ideas that connect topics across the grades, clusters that illustrate progression of increasing complexity from grade to grade, and standards which define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level. These standards include skills and knowledge – what students need to know and be able to do, as well as mathematical practices – habits of mind that students should develop to foster mathematical understanding and expertise.

Requirements:

Materials:
1-subject notebook with pockets

Pencils (mechanicals preferred)

Enclosed pencil sharpener

Basic calculator

Missed Assignments:
Any missing assignments should be completed upon return to school. It is the policy of the Muscogee County School District that students are given 3 days to make up work upon return. Please ask for missing work and complete the work within reasonable time.

Attendance:

Attendance is extremely important to maintain learning and understanding of the concepts. If an absence is paramount then follow the guidelines of the Muscogee County School District and report the absence immediately. Upon return to school a note should be given to the guidance clerk as well as the teachers.

Evaluation:

Grading Scale:

A:        100% – 90%

B         89% -  80%

C         79% - 70%

F          69% - 0%

Assignment Weights:

Formative Assessments-   60%

homework, classwork, participation or anything the student did in class

Summative Assessments- 40%

tests and quizzes, what the student knows

Extra Credit:  Extra credit will be given at the discretion of the teacher. Extra credit will be considered if and only if all assignments are completed and turned in.

Projects:  Projects are done on a small scale in math. These are called tasks that are completely within each unit.

Homework:  Home work is extremely important as it reinforces the content taught that day. Failure to do homework will result in academic detention and other consequences to make sure the work is completed. Zeros aren’t permitted!

Notebook:  Interactive Student Notebook (ISN) will be utilized this school year. Student notebooks will be kept in the classroom. Notebooks can be taken home to help with homework or study for a test. It is very important that the notebooks are brought back to school.
