I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Heather S. White. I am honored to be teaching you or your child this school year here at Aaron Cohn Middle School! I have the pleasure of teaching ELA and Math in 6th grade at ACMS. I believe that communication is the key to a great parent/guardian/student-teacher relationship. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.

Philosophy of Teaching:

I have always wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. For me, teaching is not only about imparting knowledge, but also about imparting wisdom. Wisdom comes from life lessons, and students often learn by example. Therefore, it is paramount that my students see me treat everyone with kindness, patience, and admiration for what each person can contribute. Our lives are all interconnected, so we must try every day to build each other up, and through caring for one another we learn from each other. I continue to learn everyday how to be a better teacher from my students and fellow teachers.

People often ask me, why do you teach? I chose teaching because I have a passion for it; I want to be the person who inspires others. I want to be that example of caring and compassion for others, the teacher who takes the extra time to explain something, who stays after work to make sure they understand their homework, to tutor those who need extra help, to be another person in their life that they know who cares. I love seeing the progress a student can make with the right attention and having a teacher who truly cares about their education.

I believe in every student’s ability to succeed. This means my expectations for all students are extremely high regardless of their disabilities, and I ask for nothing short of their individual best at all times. I listen to my students and respect them. I work hard each and every day to bring my students to their full potential. I took this job not for a pay check, but because I love teaching.
