Welcome to Honors Chemistry! I might be biased, but Chemistry is the best class there is. How many other classes have šŸ’„EXPLOSIONSšŸ’„ and get to (responsibly) use šŸ”„FIREšŸ”„?

Below is the information you need to know about this class and the expectations I have for you as students.

Online Textbook:  CK-12 Chemistry for High School

Grading: I use a Total Points grading system. You will have textbook readings with practice work, quizzes, exams, projects, and laboratory work. The total number of points for each item will be given up front and will vary depending on the amount of effort. Generally, I end up with anywhere from 1500 - 2000 points by the end of the 9 Weeks period.

The readings and practice from the textbook for each unit are due the day before the exam. If you finish your assigned work, you are to use the extra time to work through the assigned reading and practice questions assigned within the module.

Virtual Tutoring:I will be available for Zoom tutoring from 7:30 am to 8:00 am for extra help on Wednesdays and from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Other arrangements can be made if needed. You must notify me one day before if you are coming to tutoring so I can send you a Zoom invite and you will need to login with Clever.

Expectations:

  1. Generally speaking, I expect you to follow the ā€œGolden Ruleā€. Treat others as you would want to be treated.
  2. Check Canvas daily for resources and assignments.
  3. Adhere to all Zoom expectations as set by the district:
    • You must show your face; you cannot select a picture or just your name to display on the screen.
    • You must arrive on time for the Zoom meetings for an attendance check-in before proceeding with your daily work.
    • Your Zoom name must be the first name that you go by and your last name.  No screen names or nicknames.
    • Dress appropriately, just like you would for school.
    • The setting: background noises should not be distracting; find a quiet place.  The room should not be dark (we want to see your face!)
    • The chat is for academic communication purposes.
    • If you need to talk to me during class one on one, let me know in the chat or through Canvas and I will put us in a breakout room for privacy.
