Foundations of Interactive Design

Course Description

Welcome to Foundations of Interactive Design! In this course, students will explore web design, digital media, game development, and artificial intelligence through hands-on projects. Students will design websites, create digital products, build interactive games, and explore careers in information technology while developing creativity, problem-solving, and technical skills.

Course Objectives

Unit 1: Careers & Employability

  • Explore careers in information technology.
  • Develop workplace and leadership skills.

Unit 2: Website Design

  • Plan and design professional websites.
  • Apply design principles and create digital content.

Unit 3: Website Development

  • Build, test, and improve functional web pages.
  • Use AI tools to support the design process.

Unit 4: Game Design

  • Plan, build, test, and improve interactive games.
  • Use AI to support creativity and problem-solving.

Class Preparation

  • Students should bring the following items to class every day: charged Chromebook, paper and pencil, binder, headphones, notebook 

Classroom Expectations

To maintain a respectful and productive learning environment, students are expected to:

  • Enter class and begin the Smart Start activity immediately.
  • Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
  • Stay on assigned websites and approved apps.
  • Keep hands, feet, belongings, and unkind words to yourself.

Grading Policy

Formative Assessments (40%) – Homework, classwork, participation

Summative Assessments (60%) – Tests, projects, design challenges, website and game development projects

Late Work Policy

All assignments should be turned in on time to receive full credit.

Late work may earn a maximum grade of 70 and will not be accepted more than five days after the due date.

Missed Work

Students are responsible for checking Canvas for missed assignments, notes, and deadlines. 

Work missed because of an excused absence will receive full credit if submitted within the timeline outlined in the school handbook.  For extended absences, please email me to develop a plan for completing missed work.
