Artificial Intelligence (AI)

(Foundations of Secure Information Systems)

Course Description

Welcome to Artificial Intelligence! In this course, students will explore how artificial intelligence is used in everyday life, including robotics, self-driving vehicles, language technology, machine learning, and cybersecurity. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and projects, students will develop problem-solving, critical thinking, digital citizenship, and cybersecurity skills while learning how AI and technology are shaping the future. 

Course Units

  • Unit 1: Autonomous Robots & Self-Driving Vehicles
  • Unit 2: How Computers Understand Language
  • Unit 3: Machine Learning & Automated Decision Making
  • Unit 4: Cybersecurity:  Introduction, Digital Citizenship & Ethics   

Class Preparation

Students should bring the following items to class every day:

  • Charged Chromebook
  • Paper and pencil
  • Binder
  • Headphones
  • Notebook

Classroom Expectations

To maintain a respectful and productive learning environment, students are expected to:

  1. Enter class and begin the Smart Start activity immediately.
  2. Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
  3. Stay on assigned websites and approved apps.
  4. Keep hands, feet, belongings, and unkind words to yourself.

Grading Policy

Formative Assessments (40%) – Homework, classwork, participation

Summative Assessments (60%) – Tests, labs, projects

 

Late Work Policy

  • All assignments should be turned in on time to receive full credit.
  • Late work may earn a maximum grade of 70 and will not be accepted more than five days after the due date.

Missed Work

  • Students are responsible for checking Canvas for missed assignments, notes, and deadlines. Test dates will also be posted in the classroom.
  • Work missed because of an excused absence will receive full credit if submitted within the timeline outlined in the school handbook.
  • For extended absences, please email me to develop a plan for completing missed work.
