6-8th- We will continue working on argumentative writing as we did not get the chance to cover much last week. Many students had to complete their informative/expository writing. We will discuss claims, counter claims/rebuttals and complete a debate during class.

Lab-Achieve 3000 (Monday and Thursday) reading and comprehension- students who receive 75% or higher grade will receive points for their house.

Spelling Words: We did not quiz on last week’s words, so we will quiz on them this Friday along with five words from this week’s list. Again, this is not for a grade, only to help students improve their spelling. Words remain on board each day for students to review.

Reading: The Wonder Horse by Sabine R. Uilbarri,  Re-read and review for quiz which will be Thursday . Any students who do not make a passing grade will retake the quiz Friday. ELA QBA- Monday

The writing Process: We will begin by reviewing writing correct sentences (correcting run-on and fragments)

 Writing Paragraphs-We will view hamburger paragraph video and ppt (can search and view at home as well); Identify main points and writing topic sentences, write a paragraph from guided paragraph writing; write a paragraph from given topic.

Oct 8-12

Revision: Due to the weather, schools are closed tomorrow; and therefore, we will not be able to complete some tasks including scheduled tests this week. The 6th  and 7th grade ELA students will complete pronoun cases Friday and begin paragraph writing Monday.  The 8th grade ELA students will begin writing paragraphs leading into essay writing.

6th-7th

Pronoun Cases:  Nominative, Objective, Possessive;

Writing-Review writing  a paragraph (topic sentence, details, concluding sentence)

8th-

6th and 7th

Point of View- 1st Person, 2nd Person, 3rd Person (Limited, Objective, Omniscient)

Pronouns cases: Nominative, Objective, Possessive

Reading to determine point of view and pronoun cases

8th

Theme (What is theme, determining the theme from readings passages)

Infinitives function

Read and analyze: Marigolds by Eugenia Collier, Vocabulary: poignant, perverse, degradation, ostensible, bravado, squalor, retribution, impotent, stoicism, exuberance

 

September 24-28

Complete Daily Grammar and Composition activity: parts of speech, possessive nouns, past tense verbs, dialogue

Achieve 3000- Reading and comprehension in computer lab- (The Library Bus, pertinent vocabulary-illiterate, profound)

Figurative Language Review: Any students who did not make a passing grade on quiz last Friday will be allowed to complete a figurative language matching activity to help increase grade.

Library Tuesday- Students are encouraged to check out books on their reading level or slightly above for success and challenge when reading.

Reading: Close Reader- Face Your Fears and Scare the Phobia Out of Your Brain-Read and analyze text by citing textual evidence. Vocabulary: exposure, dormant, innocuous, stimulate

Sep 17-21- continue lessons from last week
